Welcome! We’re glad you clicked.
So, you want to write for the Peach Section. Bless your witty little heart. Here’s what it takes to join the gang — please read carefully.
Let’s not waste time: If you’ve ever used the words “like and subscribe,” you are absolutely not Peach Section material. And if your journalism career started with a podcast, we admire your confidence, but … well, no.
Beverage proficiency: When someone mentions 3.2 beer, you know it’s not the version that came after 3.1. At one point in your life, you bought Natty Light with an ID that claimed you were organ donor William P. Jamenson from Hot Springs, Ohio.
Communication skills: You must know what a pay phone was, how a person used it and what the phrase “reverse charges” means. Extra credit if you remember the sound of your last quarter never coming back.
Comedy credentials: Norm Macdonald and Dave Chappelle are required viewing. If you have to search YouTube for the moth joke, you’re probably better suited for taking pictures of your food and posting them to Instagram for a living.
Film credentials: If you believe Tarantino should have made the Bride a little more violent, Bud Kilmer was misunderstood, and Rudy was offsides — we’re not gonna lie, those are positive traits.
Ohio food fluency (tested on arrival):
Goodfella’s pizza in Athens after 10:45 p.m. on a Friday night
Gold Star chili, because you don’t put cinnamon in chili … oh, wait
Tressel Tortellini at the MVR in Youngstown in the middle of a Level 3.2 lake-effect blizzard
A New York strip at Hyde Park in Cleveland with a side of lobster mac and onion strings
Sports loyalty: Xavier football.
Still interested? That’s hysterical. Send six and a half writing samples to [email protected], and we’ll get back to you after the Xavier-Marshall game.
